How did the Mission's Call Come About?
I have been asked by many people how I became involved with the church and orphanage in a little village in India. It’s quite remarkable really... I met Pastor Matthew Raju, quite by mistake, when I received a random letter from him telling me about his ministry and the children that he and his family take care of. He was not writing to ask for money, but merely prayer and encouragement. What has followed as a result of this first communication has truly been a remarkable journey.
P. Raju and his wife, Hanna, take care of 35 to 40 children. They are orphans, semi orphans and poor street children. They give the children shelter in a one room church building. They feed them, many times with only rice provided for by the church members, who are poor themselves, and mostly consisting of women and widows. They clothe them, help provide their school support and provide spiritual teaching. Their goal is to meet their physical, spiritual, and educational needs.
I have had the blessed opportunity to meet them and shared the idea that I would come back and raise support to build a bigger building. I came home realizing the needs were much more than I had imagined. The long term vision is land, a building, continued education, and a safe haven for the poor widows. As well as ongoing support to provide their basic needs, such as nutritious foods and clothing. The ministries immediate needs are, food, clothing, an education and the finances to house the children in a larger, rented house that has rooms, electricity and toilets.
Please…we need your help! Would you consider helping in any manner to reach out and help to change these kids lives, to help to give them a hope and a future.
